Philadelphia Mummers Will Say “Thanks” to Veterans with Donation Drive & Thanksgiving Dinner

WHAT: On Saturday morning, November 18th, at 8:00 a.m., Philadelphia Mummers from 36 different clubs, representing all the various divisions and brigades, will gather at the Mummers Museum for an annual Donation Drive in support of the Philadelphia Veterans House.

It will be the culmination of an intensive three week effort to collect household items, bathroom and kitchen supplies, nonperishable items, clothing, and much more to help homeless veterans others in need who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

“It’s our way of saying ‘Thanks’ to those who served our country and helped protect our freedom,” says Bill Mulligan, a member of Bill McIntyre’s Shooting Stars Fancy Brigade.  “A lot of guys come back from serving overseas and face problems trying to readapt to civilian society. The Philadelphia Veterans House does a great job to reach out to them and help them get social, medical and other important support services.”

The donations will be loaded onto trucks at the Mummers Museum before being delivered to the Philadelphia Veterans House at 4108 Baltimore Ave. in West Philadelphia.  In addition, popular local restaurant Tollman Joe’s will again provide a holiday feast at the Comfort House to approximately 150 veterans who would have nowhere else to go on the night before Thanksgiving.

“It’s a terrific effort on the part of all the Mummers organizations and the local sponsors and a great way to honor veterans in need,” says Mulligan.
